Top seed Tommy James of Camas won his first 4A district boys tennis singles title on Saturday, defeating teammate and No. 3 seed Aidan Braiser 6-2, 6-2 at Club Green Meadows.
District titles isn’t anything new for Prairie senior Elijah Nelson who won his third 3A district singles crown by defeating Kevin Kim of Mountain View 6-2, 6-1 at Vancouver Tennis Center.
All four singles players had locked in spots to the bi-district tournament next weekend as the top three placers move on for a shot at state berths.
Union’s Jacob Flentke and James Bertheau lived up to their No. 1 seed by winning the 4A district doubles title over Naoto Uemura and Austin Shn of Camas 6-0, 6-0.
Trey Gillespie and Jeffrey Tso of Mountain View won the 3A district doubles title over Geoff Bennion and Owen Lucas of Prairie 6-1, 6-2.
Also advancing to bi-district from 4A with a third-place finish is Union’s Rohan Thawani, and at 3A, is Trevin Livingston of Evergreen.
Also advancing to bi-district in doubles with third-place finishes are Mountain View’s Lucas Gillespie and Maverick Hallett in 3A and Camas’ Ishan Mehta and Nathan Chen in 4A.
Stars of the day
- Maree Seibel, Columbia River girls soccer, had two goals in the 2A Greater St. Helens League-leading Rapids’ 5-0 win at Woodland to stay three points ahead of second-place Hockinson.
- Kelli Krsul, Ridgefield girls soccer, scored the go-ahead goal in the second half as the Spudders won at Hockinson 2-1.
